"The Truth, Whatever That Is"

by Martha Haehl ©2007

Chorus:

I’ll leave the sermon to the preacher

And the sentence to the judge,

Swear by the truth but I’ll never begrudge

Those who live by the Word, whatever that is,

‘Cause I’m a gonna live like this.

You might just find me late at night,

Playing music and having a beer

With a salty margarita in my hand,

If you have one bring it here.

I might just wear a sequined vest

And purple cowgirl boots

But I like to hot tub after dark

When I don’t wear a suit.

I’ll have humus and tabouli and pita bread

And spring water without ice

But about the time you think you’ve got me pegged,

I’ll have a burger, shake and fries.

I have a gal who loves me the best

And true love is hard to find,

So ladies don’t you worry that I’ll take your man,

'Cause I’m not so inclined.

I go to a rally to protest the war

And at a vigil shine my light,

To make the country I love the very best it can be.

For that I'll always fight.

I turn my heat down low and put layers on

And in summer sweat a bit.

So my grand kids' children have grandkids who play

On a planet that is fit.
